Toshiba NB505: Netbook For Budget-Minded Consumers
The Toshiba NB505 that’s recently released to the market is a cheap netbook designed for budget-minded consumers. The MSRP (Manufacturer suggested retail price) for this netbook is $299.99 but we can currently get it for only $279.99 on Amazon
.
Here’s the rundown of the NB505′s specification:
- Intel Atom processor N455 1.66 GHz, 512KB L2 Cache
- Configured with 1GB DDR2 (works at 667MHz, max 2GB)
- 250GB (5400 RPM) Serial ATA hard disk drive
- 10.1″ diagonal widescreen TruBrite display at 1024 x 600 native resolution (WSVGA) with a 16:9 aspect ratio and LED backlite
- Genuine Windows 7 Starter 32-bit with a 6 cell/48Wh Lithium Ion battery pack; Battery Life (measured by MobileMark 2007): 8 hours, 21 minutes
No, it’s certainly not the most powerful netbook on the market, but Toshiba has made this netbook to be a low-cost computer that’s practical for everyday use. First, its 1.66GHz Intel Atom N455 processor, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, and Intel GMA3150 graphic chip is not going to provide you with sufficient power to run full HD 1080p video. Serious gaming like Far Cry will not work on this machine as well. If you need a computer that’s capable of doing these activities, the Toshiba NB505 is not for you. However, if all you need is a portable PC for web surfing, chatting, checking email, social networking (Facebook, twitter), or taking notes / making presentation slides using Microsoft Office, the NB505 will be a perfect choice for you that can do all tasks and will not burn a hole in your wallet at the same.
One of the thing that we like about the NB505 is the extremely long battery life. It has a 6 cell/48Wh battery that Toshiba claims to deliver up to 8.5 hours of battery life. That’s the maximum battery life they are talking about of course. The actual battery life will be around 6 to 7 hours, depending on your screen brightness setting, Wifi usage, and some other factors. But overall, it has a pretty good endurance that should have no problem to stand one whole day of usage without re-charging.
Is Toshiba NB505 for you? Yes if you are looking for a portable PC for productivity works instead of entertainment (e.g. gaming, watching movies, etc.).
